Monday Blues?

Whether you consider Sunday or Monday the start of the week, most of us can relate to the familiar phrases: “Monday Blues” or “Sunday Scaries.”

Weekends often feel like a small pocket of freedom. We rest, stay up a little later than usual, spend time with family and friends, or finally do the things we don’t have time for during the busy workweek. For some, weekends are full of family activities, while others might quietly look forward to Monday when routines return and the kids are back at school.

Whatever your situation, the start of a new week often brings a small question: What are you looking forward to?

Sometimes life can slip into a rhythm of work, home, work, home. Familiar. Predictable. Comfortable—but occasionally a little monotonous too.

What if we added a little spark to the start of the week?

It doesn’t have to be anything big. Small changes can make a surprising difference. For example, you might:

  • Take a short morning walk before work to clear your mind

  • Try a new café or breakfast spot on Mondays

  • Listen to uplifting music or a podcast during your commute

  • Plan a quick lunch or coffee catch-up with a colleague or friend

  • Explore a new walking route after work

  • Cook a different meal or try a new recipe for dinner

Another simple idea is to set a “Monday win” — one meaningful thing you want to accomplish that day. It could be finishing a task you’ve been putting off, learning something new, helping someone, or making progress on a personal goal. And it doesn’t necessarily have to happen first thing in the morning. It can be anytime during the day, whenever the opportunity presents itself. What matters is having something small to look forward to and celebrate.

Sometimes the smallest shift in routine can change how the entire week feels.

Instead of bracing yourself for the Monday Blues, perhaps you can turn them into something a little more upbeat—maybe even Jazzy Blues.

After all, Monday isn’t just the end of the weekend.
It’s also the beginning of a brand-new chapter waiting to unfold.
